*Viscosity ranges and applications are guides based on our technical data; actual suitability depends on the liquid, vessel, and rotation speed. Two principles: to circulate, choose blades with strong discharge (propeller, pitched paddle); to break up finely, choose blades with strong shear (disper, disc turbine). Above 10,000 mPa·s, use a larger blade diameter (60% or more of the vessel diameter). See also the flow pattern diagrams at the bottom of this page.

General-Purpose Agitator Blades — affordable, easy-to-use standards

Seven blade shapes, each in two mounting types — shaft-tip and boss-mounted (attachable at any position) — in SUS316, with titanium also available.

Shaft-tip type — secured with a nut at the shaft tip

Shaft-tip agitator blade (oval hole)

HEIDON agitating shafts have a shouldered thread at the tip, and a nut is included. Shaft-tip blades have an oval hole: pass the shaft tip through it and secure with the nut.

The nut tightens easily with the included box driver, and because the hole is oval the blade cannot spin loose, ensuring reliable agitation.

Mounts at the shaft tip only. If you use a single blade, this simple, reliable type is the standard choice.

Boss-mounted type — attach anywhere on the shaft

Boss-mounted agitator blade (boss with set screw)

The boss (cylindrical mount) has a set screw on its side; tighten it with the included L-wrench to fix the blade at any position on the shaft.

Since it mounts mid-shaft as well as at the tip, it allows multi-stage agitation with two stacked blades and free height adjustment to match the liquid depth.

Holding force is lower than the shaft-tip type. Choose this when you want multi-stage mounting or adjustable position.

Fan agitator blade

Fan

up to 1,000 mPa·saxial flowsmall volumes

The smallest blade. Ideal for mixing small volumes of 1 L or less quickly at high speed. A staple for beaker work.

SUS316, shaft-tip (blade dia. 38 mm)
Propeller R agitator blade

Propeller (R / L)

up to 5,000 mPa·saxial, strong dischargecirculation

Creates a strong discharge flow on the same principle as a ship's screw. For uniform mixing of low-viscosity liquids, keeping slurries from settling, and circulating large volumes. Available in R (right) and L (left) to match the rotation direction.

SUS316 shaft-tip R / L, boss-mounted R / L, titanium shaft-tip R / L (blade dia. 50 mm)
Square Cross R agitator blade

Square Cross (R / L)

up to 10,000 mPa·saxial / mixed flowMost versatile

An all-round blade usable across a wide viscosity range, from low to high speed. A single cross plate press-formed at 30° into one piece, it circulates the liquid vertically. Available in R (right) and L (left). If you buy just one blade, start here.

SUS316 shaft-tip R / L, boss-mounted R / L, titanium shaft-tip R / L (blade dia. 70 mm)
Soft Cross agitator blade

Soft Cross

up to 5,000 mPa·saxial flowanti-foaming

For gentle agitation at low speed. Suited to formulations where air entrainment must be minimized and to shear-sensitive samples.

SUS316 shaft-tip, boss-mounted (blade dia. 70 mm)
Butterfly agitator blade

Butterfly

up to 10,000 mPa·santi-foaming*while stocks last

A disc-shaped blade that pushes the liquid through while suppressing surface waves and foaming. For low-speed blending.

SUS316 shaft-tip, boss-mounted (blade dia. 60 mm)
Turbine agitator blade

Turbine

up to 25,000 mPa·sradial flow

Generates a strong sideways radial flow. Used for circulating liquid in rectangular vessels and constant-temperature baths, and for efficient mixing at medium to high speed.

SUS316 shaft-tip, boss-mounted, titanium shaft-tip (blade dia. 86 mm)
Tombo agitator blade

Tombo (folding blade)

up to 1,000 mPa·sfor narrow-neck flasks

A movable blade that folds closed at rest and opens as it rotates, so it can be inserted through narrow openings such as separable flasks.

SUS316 shaft-tip (blade dia. 100 mm)

Handmade Agitator Blades — built for agitation efficiency

Made of SUS316 in a range of sizes; welded and hand-formed to order.

Pitched Paddle handmade agitator blade

Pitched Paddle

up to 25,000 mPa·smixed flow, vertical circulationlow power

Six pitched blades create efficient vertical circulation with little power. For keeping slurries suspended, preventing sedimentation, and dispersing solid particles. For high viscosity, multi-stage use (two paddles stacked) is effective.

Blade dia. 40 / 80 / 100 / 120 mm
2-blade Pitched Paddle handmade agitator blade

2-Blade / 4-Blade Pitched Paddles

up to 50,000 mPa·smixed flowlarge diameters

A simple structure of flat plates set at an angle. Easy to make in large diameters, suited to circulating medium- to high-viscosity liquids.

2-blade: dia. 80 / 120 / 150 mm 4-blade: dia. 80 / 120 mm
Disc Turbine handmade agitator blade

Disc Turbine

up to 25,000 mPa·sradial flow, sheargas-liquid mixing

A full turbine with vertical blades around a disc. The standard choice for work requiring shear: gas dispersion (absorption), dissolving solids, and liquid-liquid emulsification.

Blade dia. 40 / 80 / 100 / 120 mm
Curved Disc Turbine handmade agitator blade

Curved Disc Turbine / Blade Turbine

up to 25,000 mPa·sradial flow*while stocks last

A curved-blade type with modified discharge characteristics, and a blade type that discharges strongly downward from the disc. For gas dispersion and gas-liquid contact. *Both sold only while stocks last.

Curved Disc Turbine: dia. 40 mm Blade Turbine: dia. 80 mm (while stocks last)
Disper handmade agitator blade

Disper

up to 50,000 mPa·s (wide range)high shearpowder dispersion

A dedicated dispersing blade whose saw-tooth edge generates strong shear. Usable over a wide viscosity range, it is the standard for pigment dispersion and rapid dissolving or deagglomeration of powders. Its pumping action is weak, however: above 30,000 mPa·s only the liquid around the blade moves, so it cannot be used alone — combine it with a circulating blade such as a pitched paddle or anchor (for ultra-high viscosity, ask us about a multi-shaft anchor + disper configuration).

Blade dia. 40 / 60 / 80 / 100 mm
4-blade Propeller handmade agitator blade

4-Blade Propeller

up to 5,000 mPa·saxial, strong discharge

A large propeller with four round blades, for more powerful circulation of large volumes.

Blade dia. 100 mm

12 Series — large blades for the BLW (made to order)

Flow Patterns — the flow each blade creates

Generally, select a blade diameter of about 1/3 to 1/2 of the tank diameter; when using an anchor blade or similar for high-viscosity agitation, the size will be close to the tank diameter. The optimum blade shape depends on the purpose: axial-flow blades such as propellers create a strong vertical circulation, while radial-flow blades such as turbines create flow toward the tank wall. Use the flow patterns below as a reference.
